Thank you for your interest in the Dermatology Residency Program offered by the Department of Dermatology at University of Iowa Health Care.

Our three year ACGME-accredited program provides outstanding professional training for residents in the latest skills and knowledge of dermatology in order to provide patients with quality care.

The department takes pride in offering:

  • World-class medical and surgical care for diseases of the skin, hair, and nails
  • Clinical and basic science research dedicated to advancing care for our patients

Mission Statement

Through collective training experiences involving didactic lectures, bedside instruction in the clinic and on the inpatient wards, histopathologic reviews at the microscope, surgical skills development within the procedural suite, and participation in departmental-wide quality improvement projects, the University of Iowa Health Care dermatology residency training program strives to produce physicians who will be future leaders in the field of dermatology, capable of providing the highest quality of health care for patients with skin disease. As the only tertiary care facility in the state of Iowa, the primary aim of our training program is the development of residents into seasoned clinicians who possess the essential skills necessary to practice the specialty of dermatology in health care resource-limited rural communities throughout the Midwest. As a secondary aim, our program emphasizes the development of intra- and interprofessional communication, organization, and leadership skills.
