Thank you for your interest in the Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship at University of Iowa Health Care.

Our one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship provides a robust training experience in the evaluation and treatment of dermatologic oncology patients undergoing Mohs micrographic surgery within a multi-disciplinary setting.

The University of Iowa Department of Dermatology cares for a large patient population with a high skin cancer burden. Serving this patient population provides the fellow ample exposure to a large variety of tumors, rare histology, management of complex cutaneous oncology, and comprehensive reconstruction. For over 40 years, our institution has proudly trained Mohs surgeons, with our current Program Director leading the program since 2013. Our Mohs fellows have graduated to pursue successful careers in academic medicine, serve in numerous national leadership positions, run successful private practices, and complete additional fellowships. The extensive hands-on experience at the University of Iowa is all-encompassing and our collaborative relationships with Otolaryngology, Oculoplastic Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Orthopedic Surgery, Facial Plastic Surgery, and others enhances the exceptional educational opportunity of taking care of complex oncology patients. Our four Mohs faculty vary in their surgical and educational approach, which enhances the educational experience.

Mission Statement

We train and educate our fellows to become dermatologic surgeons who can treat complex dermatologic cutaneous oncology through a rigorous surgical clinical experience, multidisciplinary didactic conferences, and individual mentoring.

This learning environment produces physicians who provide the highest level of compassionate care to all cutaneous oncology patients within a variety of practice settings. Our faculty is committed to mentoring our fellows to be physician leaders capable of serving and leading the specialty within the house of medicine.
